The constraint

The head of the large box had to sit inside a 600mm ceiling recess. At 7.5 metres wide and 3.37 metres high, the frame that carries that span safely wants depth — and there were 600 millimetres to put it in.

The window set the size, not a product range. And it stands on a public showroom floor, so structure was not the place to save weight.

We measured on site before we quoted, then chose the profile against span versus depth. We took the heavier solid frame and absorbed the weight penalty rather than compromise the structure — six installers lifted the assembled frame and fed it into the recess by hand.

The frame was the easy half.

On a normal lightbox the fabric goes onto the frame at ground level and the whole assembly is lifted. At 7.5 × 3.37 metres we would not risk it — a graphic torn during the lift is a reprint and a lost day.

So the frame went up first, and the fabric went on afterwards, at height, into a 600mm gap with almost no clearance above.

The fabric method went to site with it: seat the first corner and reference everything off it, then work the points in sequence around the face. Four crew minimum — two on stepladders at the top edge, two at the bottom. The fabric is never folded at any stage; a crease in a backlit face is permanent. Every wrinkle is adjusted out before the crew stands down.

Read from the street

Every install ships with the manual — dimensioned set-out, segment map, connector types, carton labelling, LED wiring and crew requirements. The client's own team can re-fit a graphic when the campaign changes, and the documentation stays in the building long after the crew has gone.
