Overview

Street banner flags are the tall vertical flags that fly from banner poles along main streets, plazas and precincts for festivals, seasonal campaigns, community events and place branding. Councils fly them on their street poles. Precinct and shopping centre marketing teams fly them on their own banner poles, and event organisers hire council or precinct poles for a campaign. We print them to order in the two standard sizes, 1000 x 3000mm and 1500 x 4500mm, and finish them the way banner poles are set up for, so the install crew can hang them without changing anything.

Made to the standard council finish

Every street flag has webbing sewn on all four edges for strength, with loops down one long side that fix to the pole's arms. Choose the finish your poles use:

  • Loops on the right, with a top rod pocket
  • Loops on the left, with a top rod pocket
  • Loops on the left, no rod pocket

Not sure which? Your council's events team or your precinct's place management team will tell you, or send us a photo of a flag already on the pole and we'll match it.

Printing

Street flags are printed single sided on polyester flag fabric by dye sublimation. The design shows through to the back in reverse (mirror reverse), which is how council street flags are normally supplied, because they're seen side-on from the street and the fabric stays light enough to fly.

Ordering

  • Ordered as 10 or 20 flags of one design. Extra designs in the same order can be added, ask us
  • Send your artwork as a PDF, or the council's flag template if you have one. We check it and send a proof before printing
  • Approval of the artwork and flying dates is arranged by you with the council or precinct manager before you order
  • Production is 8 working days from artwork approval, then delivery Australia-wide

FAQ

Q: Will these fit our council's street poles?

Yes. The sizes and finishes are the ones council street poles are set up for: webbing on all edges, loops down one side, with or without a top rod pocket. Pick the finish your council uses, or send us a photo of a flag already on the pole and we'll match it.

Q: Our poles aren't council poles. Can you match them?

Yes. Shopping centres, business parks and precincts often use their own banner poles. Send us a photo of a flag already on the pole, or the pole's banner size and fitting details, and we'll match the size and finish.

Q: Why single sided only?

Council street flags are supplied single sided with a mirror reverse as standard. They're seen side-on from the street, and a single layer stays light enough to fly well on the pole arms.

Q: Do we need approval first?

Yes. The council or precinct manager approves the artwork and the dates the flags fly, and that's arranged by you, the organiser, before you order. Most councils have a street flag application form and an artwork template on their website. Precincts like Darling Harbour and The Rocks book their banner poles through their signage hire team.

Q: Can we order fewer than 10?

Street flags are ordered as 10 or 20 flags. A street campaign uses a run of poles, and a smaller run isn't worth the freight. For one or two flags on a standard flagpole, ask us about our custom flagpole flags.

Q: Can we have more than one design in an order?

Yes. Tell us how many of each design and we'll quote it as a split run.

Q: How long do street flags last?

Flying every day, 6 to 12 months before colour and fabric wear show, faster in strong sun and wind. Most campaigns fly for a few weeks at a time and the flags are stored between, which makes them last much longer.

Q: Can you match our brand colours?

Yes. Send your Pantone references or your original artwork and we'll match as closely as dye sublimation allows. You'll see a proof before anything is printed.

Q: How long does it take?

Production is 8 working days from artwork approval, plus delivery: about 3 working days in Sydney and 3 to 7 working days interstate. Tell us the date you need them delivered by and we'll confirm before you order.
